Scrambled eggs are a breakfast staple for many UK households. The simple dish can be whipped within minutes using minimal ingredients. Many people have their own ways of cooking the loved breakfast dish, including adding ingredients like milk, cheese, or seasonings to give it a unique flavour.
However, there are others who don’t know where to start when it comes to scrambled eggs. One Reddit user was on the hunt to find some secrets on how to make the “best” scrambled eggs after they claimed that they couldn’t cook the dish at all.
The user wrote: “I love scrambled eggs. American breakfast style. But I can’t cook them for s**t. What’s the secret for creamy, rich, cheesy (do you put cheese on them? Which kinds?), delicious eggs that are perfect with bacon for instance?
Is it normal for half of it to stick to the pan and burn? Do I need a specific type of frying pan? How do I get the hang of this?”
The question bagged over 1,100 comments, filled with tips and tricks from the how much heat is needed, to what ingredients should be used. The majority of comments recommended adding butter when the eggs are nearly done.
However, there was one trick in particular that took a number of other users by surprise.
User _Melancholee wrote: “Everyone else has hit the big ticket steps, so I’ll add something small. Break your eggs into a cup and salt them 15 minutes before you plan to cook, if you have patience. World of difference.”
According to a Reddit user the reason behind salting them before and waiting is that it denatures the protein strands, so hold on to their moisture before cooking.
And it appears the simple step works, as anderscm44 replied: “This has transformed my scrambled eggs for real.”
Multiple other users responded that they will test out the tip. One explained: “When I add salt to the eggs and just cook them after scrambling, they seem a bit tougher.
“I’ve never tried letting them sit for anything more than a minute or two with salt in them. I’ll have to try this.”
